Who We Are:
St. Joe Valley Blue Star Mothers #6 is a group of mothers, veterans, and others who want to help our military heroes. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and part of the national organization, Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc. The national organization was chartered in 1942 and Congressionally chartered in 1960. Our chapter was chartered in 2008 prior to which several of our members had belonged to a chapter in St. Joseph, Michigan. The national organization was organized in 1942 and Congressionally chartered in 1960. We are a service and support organization for the military, their families, Veterans, and for each other. Our chapter covers ten counties which include St. Joseph, Marshall, Starke, LaPorte, Lake, Porter, Fulton, Elkhart, Kosciusko, and Pulaski counties.
What We Do:
We host several events throughout the year such as Helping our Heroes, Operation Care Package, various Stand Downs, Military Appreciation events, B100 Letter to the Troops, Homes for Heroes, sponsor other veteran organization rides, Operation Homefront as well as providing financial assistance to veterans in need. When a service member passes away while serving active duty, we have the sad honor of presenting the family with a Gold Star Banner.
Who Can Join:
We welcome anyone to our group that wants to help. You can join as a member or an associate member. A member would be a Mother or Stepmother (since the child was of the age of 13) who has a son or daughter who is serving or has been honorably discharged from the Armed Forces of the United States. Services included are the United States Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard, National Guard, Reserve Units, and the Merchant Marines. An associate member would be Fathers or Stepfathers, spouse, sister, brother, grandparent, aunt, uncle, cousins, or friend who is serving or has been honorably discharged from the list above.
